Middleburg Hunt News & Calendar

Fall 2009

October 3 Night Hunt and Barbeque at Mr. & Mrs. Rodion Cantacuzene’s Landfall Farm at 5 p.m.:  The Cantacuzenes provide us with a beautiful setting and a camp fire for roasting marshmallows, fun for children of all ages.  The Night Hunt attracts foxhunters and non-foxhunters alike, since riding is not involved.  After a barbeque, catered by Mr. B, enjoy walking through the woods or sitting by the fire, listening to the music of the Middleburg Hunt foxhounds under the moon.  Wear comfortable walking shoes.  Bring your flash light.  You don’t want to miss this popular evening.
October 18 Puppy Auction at the Institute Farm at 6 p.m.: Complete with cocktails and fabulous hors d’oeuvres, this party gives you the chance to purchase the right to name one of the Middleburg Hunt puppies.  There is no charge to attend.  Form a syndicate or work alone to be the successful bidder to name one of these future super stars.  Organized by Jan and Geoff Ogden, this is one of the most fun and lively evenings you will spend with the Middleburg Hunt.
November 7
Opening Meet at Groveton Farm by the kind invitation of Vice Admiral and Mrs. William Houser at 9 a.m. Followed by the Governors’ Opening Meet Breakfast in honor of our landowners at Foxcroft School’s Spur and Spoon at 6 p.m.
November 8 Virginia Field Hunter Championship: Hosted by last year’s Champion, the Piedmont Foxhounds, each hunt in Virginia is invited to send two representatives to compete.  Tracey Cover, the 2006 Champion and 2008 Reserve Champion, and Devon Zebrovious, the 2007 Reserve Champion, will represent Middleburg.
November 21 Fox/Hound Day at Foxcroft School:  The meet will be at 9 a.m. at the stable.  The field is invited to a hunt breakfast at the Head of School’s house, Covert, at noon.  As is the tradition, we will appoint Foxcroft students to honorary staff positions for the day of hunting.  This is one of the ways we prepare future leaders of our sport.
November 22 Foxhunter's Clinic given by Gavin Moylan, a Middleburg Hunt subscriber and Grand Prix rider and trainer, on November 22 at Foxstone Farm. Teaching will focus on improving riding and jumping skills in the hunting field for a more enjoyable day with one's horse riding cross-country. Sections available for riders of all levels. Open to all foxhunters, and audtitors are welcome. $80 for clinic participants; $10 for auditors. Click here to download the flyer with complete details, and click here for registration forms.
December 5 Christmas in Middleburg:  One of our most popular meets, hounds and field parade down Main Street prior to hunting.
